Niigata, Japan's Bridges: Motoschirocho Bridge across the U River (1)

August 2007 (N37.3547° E138.5515°) Motoschirocho Bridge
Just upstream of the two utility bridges is this four span steel I girder bridge over the U River and a frontage road. This was the last bridge across the Ugawa where we saw any sign of approach settlement. We walked past a lot of flood control facilities along the river including the blue sluice gate in the photo. Perhaps they close the gate at high tide to prevent salt water from getting into their fields.
This bridge has a long embankment on the west side and the photo above shows a very slight settlement at the east approach. I'm standing on the northeast side of the bridge looking across the bridge and slightly upstream (to the south at the distant mountains). I couldn't find a name for this bridge but its just north of several buildings labeled Motoschirocho just south of this bridge.
