Tokyo, Japan's Bridges: Kahama Bridge across the Arakawa

March 2012 (35.777 Degrees, 139.745 Degrees) Kahama Bridge
Continuing downstream we arrive at the Kahama (or Shikahama) Bridge. It is a 2000 ft long bridge that carries Route 318 (the Kannana Dori) across the Arakawa. It's a four lane steel plate girder bridge on wide, two column bents that was built in 1968. The steel girders are cantilevered over the center bents with a drop-in span in the middle.

Similar to our trip up the Sumida, an elevated expressway (a branch of the Metropolitan Expressway ) is on the east bank along the Arakawa. However, the Arakawa is a much bigger river with more empty space around it.
