Amador County, California Bridges: SR 88 across Jackson Creek (2)

March 2013 (38.30667 Degrees-120.97500 Degrees) Jackson Creek Bridge
A few last photos of the SR 88 Bridge over Jackson Creek. It looks like they narrowed the creek with gravel in order to widen this seventy year old bridge. I'm surprised they were allowed to do this although during the Gold Rush they probably did worse things to the creek.

We widen and re-widen old bridges and so we have to be careful to match the new and old segments.  We recently wrote rules (in Memo to Designers 20-12) on how to make the widening behave like the original bridge so that during an earthquake all the load doesn't get dumped onto the older bridge.
