Michigan's Bridges: Trellis Bridge at Cranbrook School (2)

August 2003 (42.575 Degrees, -83.245 Degrees) Trellis Bridge
A closer look at the Trellis Bridge at Cranbrook Academy. We can see how steel 'X' braces are bolted to the bottom and top timber elements to support the bowed trellis members. The trellis serves no structural purpose other than to support a timber beam above the bridge deck. It's like a covered bridge, only less covered. I would like the bridge more if the various elements had a purpose (at least by supporting some ivy or roses).
