El Dorado County, California Bridges: North South Road Bridges across the Middle Fork of the Cosumnes River (1)

March 2013 (38.56667 Degrees, -120. 44242 Degrees) PiPi Bridges
I had even more trouble getting to the last bridge site across the Middle Fork of the Cosumnes River. The first time I tried my four wheel drive stopped working and I got stuck in the snow. After I got it repaired (new vacuum hoses) I waited for a warm, dry day before I set out again. Monday (3/4/13) was supposed to be the last nice day before four days of rain and snow and so I left work early to photograph these bridges.

The PiPi Campground is deep in the Eldorado National Forest and the forest service does not plow the roads. There's a vehicular bridge and a pedestrian bridge across the Middle Fork of the Cosumnes River near the entrance to the campground. The vehicular bridge has deep tire tracks in the snow (that I followed for several miles) and the pedestrian bridge has big rocks on both sides to stop vehicles.

We'll take a closer look at these bridges tomorrow.
