January 2013 (38.6592 Degrees, -120.6779 Degrees) Mount Aukum Road Bridge |
The center span is 85 ft and the total bridge length is 255 ft, so the bridge has three equal spans. Still, one short pier and one tall pier means the short pier takes all the load during an earthquake. The piers have a architectural appearance with a slightly cruciform cross-section.
A really big boulder on my right. I think this must be the location where I rubbed against some poison oak. The Mount Aukum Bridge was built in 1960, which means it's already 53 years old. It looks in pretty good shape though and the girders are high enough to avoid most floods.
