On the downstream side of the Keisei Railway Bridge is the Horikiri Highway Bridge. It is a 2868 ft long steel plate girder bridge carrying the Shuto Expressway over the Arakawa.  The bridge was completed in 1967. It is 56 ft wide and has four traffic lanes and wide sidewalks. It includes drop-in spans over the river, which seems a very popular design in Japan. Perhaps they can economically get a longer span by providing expansion joints at the inflection points or maybe it's easier to construct a bridge with drop-in spans?

Continuing downstream we come to the Keisei Line Bridge. It is a long steel plate girder bridge with three Warren Truss spans over the Arakawa. The bridge is about 1475 ft long and built in 1931. It's next to the Horikiribashi, which we'll look at tomorrow.

March 2012 (35.756 Degrees, 139.810 Degrees) Tobu Isesaki Bridges

The next two bridges are identical through-truss railway structures. These 1470 ft long bridges carry the Tobu Isesaki Line from Kita-Senju Station in the west across the Arakawa to Kosuge Station in the east.
